Rod and Myra's Sheep on the Black Isle

Our flock of 50 breeding ewes are bred from Blackface hill sheep crossed with a Leicester tup to produce hardy prolific sheep with good mothering ability. We put them to our Texel tups each autumn to produce Texel cross lambs for sale as store or fat lambs at six months to a year old. The Texel tups engender meaty lambs with a good shape for the butcher to produce attractive prime cuts of lamb Our lambing takes place in March and April for around six weeks. They get the benefit of the first spring grass as soon as it starts to grow and should grow rapidly from then through to the end of the summer when thay are speaned from their mothers. We sell fat lambs and store lambs through Dingwal mart from autumn omwards as they become heavier.
